Mike,

Most of that information is contained in config.log and
config.status, so those files are sufficient.

In particular, those files contain the OS information, compiler
version numbers, path, etc.

From the error message he sent, I can see that there's a
dynamic linker problem which probably only affects isis because
isis imports the pgplot module at run-time while xspec
presumably has pgplot linked at compile time.

I sent him a suggested solution, but he probably hasn't had
time to reply.

If the isis installation instructions posted on the web are
inadequate, perhaps you would suggest how they can improved,

If installation difficulties are Mac-specific, then perhaps you
might suggest improvements for the mac-specific installation
instructions on the isis web page at:
  http://space.mit.edu/cxc/isis/mac_install.html

Ideally, I think it would be best to have one clear set of
installation instructions in one place (on the isis web page)
rather than to circulate multiple sets of installation
instructions.
