The error message indicates that the module that communicates
with ds9 was not found on the current isis search path.

Did you use the install-isis.sh script?

That script installs isis plus a few commonly used modules
including ds9. If you used the install script and the ds9
module was not installed correctly, please send me the
following log files to help diagnose the problem:

   isis-build/xpa-2.1.13/config.out
   isis-build/xpa-2.1.13/build.log
   isis-build/xpa-2.1.13/install.log

If you installed only isis itself (the contents of
isis-1.6.2-10.tar.gz), then the ds9 module probably has not
been installed.  Source code for the module can be found here:

   http://space.mit.edu/cxc/software/slang/modules/xpa/

Presumably this is the same problem -- the ds9 module
has not been installed.
