The Non-triggered Burst Catalogs

Web access to the catalogs using the links below assumes you are using a forms-capable browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.

Non-triggered GRB Candidates

This is a catalog of transients that appear to be gamma ray bursts. None of the events in this catalog activated the onboard burst trigger, however, for the reasons described in the Introduction. Each burst has its own page for browsing by humans. For input into machines, the data in this catalog are also available in ASCII format and a binary IDL "save /xdr" format. The raw DISCLA data (summed in the two detectors most brightly illuminated by the burst) for each event are available in BFITS format from the individual burst pages. (To download BFITS files in bulk, go to the BFITS page.)

Bursts from Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters (SGRs)

This is a catalog of transients that appear to be bursts from Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters. These events events have durations shorter than the time resolution of the DISCLA data, significant counts in channels 1 and 2 (25-100 keV) but none in channel 3 (100-300 keV), and they tend to occur during known outbursts of SGR sources. Of the 25 events listed here, 24 are consistent with activity from SGR 1806-20. The one that is not, NTB 941022.58, has an unknown origin. Each burst has its own page for browsing by humans. For input into machines, the data in this catalog are also available in ASCII format and a binary IDL "save /xdr" format.

Burst and Flares of Unknown Origin

This is a catalog of transients that do not appear to be gamma ray bursts or bursts form SGRs. These events also do not show the characteristics of solar flares, atmospheric electron precipitation events, or bursts from sources such as GRO J1744-28. The bursts in this category most likely represent a variety of causes, including bursts from X-ray binaries and spectrally soft GRBs. For input into machines, the data in this catalog are also available in ASCII format and a binary IDL "save /xdr" format.

Onboard Triggered Bursts

This is a list of the BATSE trigger numbers for the GRBs that were detected both the onboard triggered and by the off-line search. These numbers can be used as keys to look up the appropriate data from the BATSE burst catalogs.

Comparison Bursts

This is a collection of gamma ray bursts that did activate the onboard burst trigger. These events provide a way to compare the results produced by our analysis techniques with the results published by the BATSE team in the regular BATSE gamma ray burst catalogs. Generally the agreement is good, but there are cases where systematic differences are significant. These cases arise because the off-line search uses only DISCLA data (1.024 s, 4 energy channels) and because the off-line search assumes all bursts have a power-law spectrum.

More Onboard-Triggered Bursts

This is a collection of gamma ray bursts that did activate the onboard burst trigger but that did not have peak fluxes listed for them in the BATSE catalog as of 1998 August. To complete the analysis of the peak flux distribution, we derived peak fluxes for these bursts just as we did for the strictly nontriggered ones.

Sky Exposure
