I normally just make plots that use thicker lines, larger text
fonts and larger plot symbols. See:
  set_line_width
  set_frame_line_width
  charsize

When plot axis labels are in a larger font, it's sometimes
necessary to adjust the viewport to avoid clipping the label
text.  See:
 set_outer_viewport

Use set_frame_line_width().
