Making Spectrometers

In Crafting the Cosmos, we made our own spectrometers (tools for splitting light into its rainbow of constituent colors), using diffraction grating film and simple components. Click for instructions.

Spectroscopy in Astronomy

We talked about how astronomers use spectroscopy to characterize the properties of stars, and measure the motions of galaxies. Click here for slides.

Color Scrapbooks

We used our spectrometers to observes different light sources samples of materials that interact with light in interesting ways.
