The MIT Kavli Institute is a leading research institution in astrophysics and space research with primary sources of sponsored research funds from NASA and NSF and additional support from other federal agencies and foundations.

MIT’s annual reporting for departments in the School of Science shows that MKI has the second highest cumulative total of federal funding over the last 10 years. In 2019 MKI had the highest number of individual research projects, in part because of the high volume of observation grants awarded to MKI researchers.

We provide pre-award and post-award management for grants and contracts. You can click on the tabs above for information on our range of services.

MKI’s financial staff serve as liaisons between MKI researchers and key central offices of MIT, including the Office of the Vice President for Researchers, the Research Administration Services office (formerly the Office of Sponsored Programs), and the Office of the Vice President for Finance.
