The MIT Kavli Institute is a leading research institution in astrophysics and space research with primary sources of sponsored research funds from NASA and NSF and additional support from other federal agencies and foundations.
MIT’s annual reporting for departments in the School of Science shows that MKI has the second highest cumulative total of federal funding over the last 10 years. In 2019 MKI had the highest number of individual research projects, in part because of the high volume of observation grants awarded to MKI researchers.
