Download Fake_and_Fold.tgz (9.8 MB; contains this file and linked slang scripts and plots, plus responses required to run the scripts).

• Setup.sl: Sets search path for required slang files, loads responses, initializes plasma database.

• Run_model.sl: Define differential emission measure model and generate a fake HETGS spectrum.

  Output plots:
  Example_spec_100ks_1.ps: The summed MEG +1 and -1 orders (data and model) for two absorption columns, with lines marked.
  Example_spec_100ks_2.ps: The same models folded through an ACIS-I response.
  Example_spec_100ks_3.ps: The absorbed model spectrum on the ACIS-I grid.

  
  

• Fold_fit.sl: Fit unresolved Gaussians to Si III in fake spectrum by convolving the model with the HETGS responses.

  Output plot:
  Example_fold_fit.ps: The absorbed model spectrum on the ACIS-I grid.

Utility files:

• Define_model.sl: Defines differential emission measure model (using functions in aped_fit_models.sl).
• Trans_List_define.sl: Defines line transitions via mnemonic strings.
• aped_fit_models.sl: Defines model spectrum functions.
• custom_plot.sl: Customized plot function.
• get_line_fluxes.sl: Evaluate model line photon fluxes (uses the transition list associative array).
• gsmooth.sl: Gaussian smoothing function, via 1D FFT convolution.
• hanning.sl: Hanning filter, used by gsmooth().
• p_groups.sl: Line-id plotting utility; offsets and colors by element.
• pick_el.sl: Line-id utility: from the n brightest lines, (according to the model), selects a subset by element and ion.
• splot_data.sl: Smoothed-plot functions (uses gsmooth()).
