From your configure files, it looks like HEASOFT, as a 32bit build, is already
in your path, and that's being noticed.

You need to do a fresh install. Do a "make distclean" in the BUILD_DIR
directory, and when you rebuild, make sure that you haven't defined
HEADAS and you have gotten those paths defined in your PATH variable.

The "nuclear option" would be just remove the whole heasoft directory,
and then unpack the tar file from scratch. (This might actually be faster,
albeit more dangerous if doing an "rm -Rf", than doing a "make distclean",
especially if you still have the downloaded HEASOFT tar file lying about.)

With the plethora of redundant libraries out there from various astrophysical
packages, it's super easy to accidentally have something snuck into one
of your paths. If any of the configure scripts (of which there are many in
the HEASOFT tree) find one of these libraries, that can pull you off into
a build you weren't expecting.
