Your install log contains this warning:

  ld: warning: in /Users/mettefriis/local/heasoft/i386-apple-darwin10.8.0/lib/libreadline.dylib, \
file was built for i386 which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64)

so it looks like your heasoft installation is 32-bit (i386),
while you're compiling isis as 64-bit (x86_64).

Did you compile heasoft yourself, or are you installing heasoft
binaries?

The isis web pages give some suggestions for installing on Macs:
  http://space.mit.edu/cxc/isis/mac_install.html
but that approach may not be the best for the most recent Mac
OS release.

Mike Nowak recently gave somewhat different advice here:
   http://space.mit.edu/cxc/isis/archive/2013/0911.html

Hope that helps,
-John
