Dear isis users, If any of you are going to the ADASS meeting in Quebec next week, http://adass2008.artisan.net/info.php feel free to track down myself or Mike Noble for an informal "Hi", isis chat, demo, etc. FYI, below I list the BoF session that Mike has organized and I give our poster titles as well. merci et bon chances, -Dan - - BoF 3 : Parallel and distributed computing in Astronomy Michael Noble (mnoble_at_email.domain.hidden From multicore desktops to massively parallel Beowulf clusters, astronomers have access to an unprecedented level of computing power. The aim of this BOF session is to build a sense of the high performance computing landscape in astronomy, by providing a forum for practitioners to collect, discuss their experience, and voice their perspective, irrespective of the languages, libraries, or hardware being utilized. We will open by discussing the use of parallelism within what is perhaps the most common scientific activity in astronomy: modeling and analysis of observational data. Though a majority of papers published in observational astronomy result from fitting models within established software systems, few researchers employ parallelism to do so, especially in the interactive context. Subsequent presentations and discussion are invited for a broader range of topics, including but not limited to: parallel image processing, large-scale simulations and visualization, database and pipeline processing, et cetera. - - Michael NOBLE Session: C.06 Parallelizing the XSTAR Photoionization Code - - Daniel DEWEY Session: A.11 Beyond spectra: Simulation and fitting of multi-dimensional X-ray data ---------------------------------------------------------- Daniel Dewey dd_at_email.domain.hidden MIT Kavli Institute Office:(617) 253-7244 70 Vassar St., NE80-6085 Fax:(617) 253-8084 Cambridge, MA 02139 http://space.mit.edu/home/dd ---------------------------------------------------------- ---- You received this message because you are subscribed to the isis-users list.
