I think this is what I will have to do. I am modifying code written by a 
colleague who is unable to continue to support it. His code was written 
before the behavior of set_par_fun was modified, which is why this "bug" 
wasn't caught before. It would have been easier if there were a flag to 
relax (soft) bound checking for derived parameters, but I can figure out 
how to change the parameter limits.
