No specific comments to the errors that you are finding here, however, I will say that on the Mac  have built this with gcc 4.4.  I know gcc 4.2 was missing some options that were common under g77 back in the 3.4 days.  
Maybe try upgrading to that.

However, I'd stay away from gcc 4.5, since I know of at least one person who has had HEASOFT problems with that, and the web pages that I saw on it make it sound not ready for prime time.
