python import xspec models

Is anyone familiar with modules or scripts to import XSPEC models into python?

For example, it would be nice if I could specify a wavelength grid and N_H value
and obtain the corresponding phabs model multipliers without leaving python.

One alternative is, of course, to have python call ISIS to load the data grid
and model, and to return the values.  Is there anything more direct?  (For more
complicated operations such as complex model fitting, ISIS or XSPEC is of course
required.)
