ISIS version 1.0.8 is now available from http://space.mit.edu/CXC/ISIS I recommend upgrading to this version to take advantage of the many new features added since version 0.9.80. Some of the new features are: * import("xspec") now adds 105 XSPEC additive and multiplicative models and provides access to the XSPEC help files. XSPEC table models are also supported. Optionally, the XSPEC module can be statically linked to ISIS so that all the XSPEC functions are automatically available and import("xspec") is unnecessary. Use list_functions() to get a complete list of imported functions. IMPORTANT CHANGE: Because the number and order of parameters of imported XSPEC fit-functions now matches the XSPEC definition, some of these functions now have different interfaces than in isis-0.9.80. Also, name conflicts required changing the names of two ISIS intrinsic fit-functions: powerlaw => Powerlaw lorentz => Lorentz * New routines for generating 2D confidence contour plots: conf_map_counts conf_map_flux conf_[o]plot Contour plot data can also be saved as a FITS image and then reloaded. See: save_conf load_conf * More versatile rebinning functions: rebin_dataset rebin_rmf rebin_array * Simpler I/O of columnar ASCII tables: readcol writecol * New load_dataset() function allows loading a PHA file, ARF and RMF with one command. * save_input() function allows saving the command history so far, even if you forgot to turn on logging. * New set_rebin_error_hook() function allows user-control over error propagation when rebinning counts spectra. * New latex2pg() function supports plot annotations using TeX syntax for subscripts, superscripts and Greek characters. * New 'Isis_Verbose' intrinsic variable gives more control over the verbosity of output warnings and error messages. By default, batch mode is automatically less verbose. * The web pages have been updated to include a few new usage examples -- see http://space.mit.edu/CXC/ISIS/examples.html John -- John C.
