Ruslan S. Vaulin

Postdoctoral Associate Postdoctoral Scholar

Born in Chelyabinsk Russia, 11 April 1977. Received his diploma of specialist in physics and applied mathematics from Southern Ural State University in 2000 and his doctoral degree in physics from Florida Atlantic University in 2006. From 2007 - 2010 held post-doctoral research associate position at the Center for Gravitation and Cosmology, University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin. Joined Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research as a post-doctoral associate in 2010.

Research interests:

My research interests lies in the fields of gravitational-wave astronomy, theory of gravity and physics of compact objects (black holes and neutron stars). Currently, I am involved in searches for gravitational waves from compact binary coalesce (CBC) consisting of neutron stars and/or stellar mass black holes with the advanced gravitational-wave detectors such as LIGO and Virgo. I am especially interested in using multi-messenger multi-wavelength observations of CBC in GW and EM (radio/optical/x-ray) sectors in order to learn about strong field gravity, properties of neutron stars and black holes, and the process of coalescence itself. I also work on understanding quantum effects in strong field gravity and physics of black holes, theory of data analysis and statistical learning theory.
