Daniel Dewey

Research Scientist

Daniel Dewey entered MIT in the Fall of 1975 and gravitated to astrophysics instrumentation, working in the "CCD lab", the "Gravity Wave Group" and most recently the Chandra HETG instrument team (1989 -- present.)

Research interests:

My main research interests include Supernovae and Supernova remnants (SNRs), their plasma physics, and observations of them with the HETG on Chandra. For some SNRs, the HETG allows us to measure Doppler velocities along the line-of-sight, adding a "third dimension" to the structure of the remnant.

Representative publications:

Evolution and Hydrodynamics of the Very-Broad X-ray Line Emission in SN 1987A, D. Dewey, V.V. Dwarkadas, F. Haberl, R. Sturm and C.R. Canizares, ApJ, 752, 103 (2012).
