This observatory has been more than 20 years in the making, which is half the life time of X-ray astronomy, and it has involved hundreds of people throughout the world. It was conceived in Cambridge, MA and, as you will see, it is also controlled from Cambridge.

The Chandra Observatory, one of NASA's Great Observatories, looks at X-ray light from the sky. It is named after an astrophysicist, originally from India, named Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, known as CHANDRA to his friends.
L'osservatorio spaziale a Raggi-X Chandra, uno dei Grandi Telescopi Spaziali della NASA, osserva la luce a raggi-X proveniente dallo spazio. Il suo nome e' in onore dell'astrofisico, di origine indiana, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, che era pero' chiamato CHANDRA dai suoi amici.
